Robert McMordie

Born: 15 Jan 1770, York Co., PA
Died: 20 Apr 1846, Adams Co., PA
Married: Jane Brown

Robert McMordie was the youngest son of Rev. Robert and Janet McMordie and the only one who did not leave Adams County.  The History of Cumberland and Adams Counties recounted that Robert lived in Cumberland Township, York County, in 1799 and was a weaver by occupation.  As noted by the ages of their children, he and Jane Brown were married before 1805 (Bates, 1886).  John McMordie's will listed the children of Robert and Jane as:

  1. Robert McMordie
  2. David McMordie
  3. Jane McMordie
  4. Nancy McMordie
Robert McMordie was a soldier in the 28th Regiment of the Pennsylvania Militia during the War of 1812 (Pennsylvania Archives, 6th series).  He was also a commissioner of the County, Pennsylvania.  His reported age at death would indicate Robert was born in 1781, but the Adams County Censuses of 1810 and 1820 show he was born between 1765 and 1775.  The year of his birth was also reported to have been 15 Jan 1770 (Natl. Soc.Daut. Amer. Rev. [NSDAR], 1922).  Therefore, in all probability, Robert McMordie was born in 1770, as listed in the DAR records.

Only one of Robert and Jane McMordie's children has been traced further.  Their daughter, Jane, married Samuel Tate Anderson on 25 Mar 1835 in Adams County, Pennsylvania (Stover, 1976).  Jane Anderson died after being married for only two years and had only one child, a son named James McMordie Anderson.  He was born on 15 Jul 1836, in Adams County, Pennsylvania, and married Elizabeth P. Barker on 26 Jul 1860.  The place of this marriage and the place of death on 20 Feb 1920 are unknown at present.  James and Elizabeth Anderson's daughter, Jennie Elizabeth, was born on 28 May 1861, and was 26 years old when she married Samuel F. Boyd on 25 Jul 1887.  Edna Mildred Boyd, the daughter of Samuel and Jennie Boyd, married Carl A. Neves; however, the date and place of their marriage have not been determined at present.  Never the less, the Neves' lived at 309 West 86th Street, New York NY, in 1922 (NSDAR, 1922).
