Mary J. (Polly) McMordie was born on 30 Oct 1799 in Mercer Co., KY. and married William Cowan, 12 May 1818 (Probate Record, 1834; Walling, 1991; lson & Conover, 1970). According to the will of her father, Francis McMordie, Polly and William Cowan had a son, John Cowan, who was born before 1831. Mary J. Cowan, age 65, and her nephew Abram I. McMordie, Jr., age 15, were reported as living in the household of John W. Parker in the 1860 Census of Boyle County, Kentucky. Although not known for certain, John Parker or his wife could have been relatives of Nancy Irvine McMordie.
