The 1850 Census of Montgomery County, #682, listed William Davis, age 28, and his 16 year old wife, Mary E Davis.  William was a farmer and both he and Mary were born in Tennessee.  Before 1853, the Davis family had moved to Missouri, since their eldest child was born in that state.  By 1855 they had removed to Texas and were living in the Andice community of Williamson County.  In 1870 Davis household consisted of William, a farmer aged 47, his 35-year-old wife, Mary, and eight children ranging in age from 1 to 17 (US Census Texas, 1870).  The ninth child, a daughter May, was born in 1871.  Then in 1873 a double tragedy occurred.  On 14 Jul 1873 Mary died in childbirth with her tenth child, and the baby girl died ten days later.  William lived 11 more years and died on 1 Aug 1884, at Andice, Williamson County, Texas (Davis-McMordie Hanging File, n.d.).

Only the defendants of Harold L. and Maggie Davis Morton are known to have been traced. An outline of this genealogy is:
