Jane Boyd McMordie

Born: 20 Jan 1758 (?) York Co., PA
Died: 20 Jan 1837, Adams Co., PA
Married: Quinton Armstrong.

Jane Boyd McMordie was the eldest daughter of Robert and Janet McMordie and, following tradition of that time, was named for her maternal grandmother, Jane Creaghead Boyd (Adams County Wills, 1809).  There is no strong evidence confirming the date of her birth, but she was probably born in 1758, two years after the birth of Francis and two years before the birth in 1760 of her next oldest brother, John.

Jane Boyd McMordie married Quinton Armstrong of Cumberland Township, York Co., Pennsylvania, in ca. 1780 (Egle, 1896).  He was an Elder in the Upper Marsh Creek Presbyterian Church in 1776, the same church in which Rev. Robert McMordie began his ministry some 20 years before (Adams County Church Records, n. d.).  Quinton Armstrong died in Feb 1795, leaving Jane, a widow, with four children.  According to Egle (1896), the names of their children were James, Quinton, John, and lssac.  There is some uncertainty in these names, however, for in her will their grandmother, Janet McMordie, listed grandsons, Francis Armstrong and Robert Armstrong, among her heirs (Adams County Wills, 1809).

Her obituary in the Adams County Republican Compiler, reported that Jane Armstrong, widow of Quinton Armstrong, died at the residence of her brother Robert McMordie, 20 Jan 1837 (Stover, 1976).

This author has not traced the descendants of Jane McMordie Armstrong further.
