James C McMordie

James C McMordie was born on 20 Apr 1841 in Montgomery County, Tennessee, and moved with his to Williamson County, Texas, when he was 12 (McMordie Family Bible, 1903; Montgomery County Census #733, 1850).  When he was 19, James enlisted as a private in W. C. Dalrymple's Company of Mounted Texas Rangers and served from 14 Jan 1860 until 13 Oct 1860 at Liberty Hill, Williamson County, Texas (ingmire, 1982).  In August of 1861, James together with his brothers Frank and Abe, volunteered for service in Capt. H. M. Burrows'Williamson County Company, 27th Brigade, Texas Militia, Confederate States Army, Brig. Gen. E. S. C. Robertson, commanding (Texas Confederate Index, Reel 10).  Because of his service with the Texas Rangers, he was enrolled as a 2nd Sergeant.

James C McMordie died, unmarried, 12 Dec 1863 and is buried in the Old Round Rock Cemetery, Williamson County, Texas. (Fabion, 1978).  Whether he died from illness or wounds is not known at present.
