Adam McMordie

Born: 15 Apr 1762, York Co., PA
Died: > 1806 <1833

Adam McMordie was born on 15 Apr 1762 in York County, Pennsylvania, the third son of Rev. Robert and Janet McMordie (Adams County Wills, 1809, Walling, 1991).  On 9 Oct 1794, he was commissioned as an Ensign in the Marsh Creek Light Infantry, York County Brigade (Pennsylvania Archives, 6th Series).  Adam moved to the Northwest Territory prior to 11 Jul 1800, for on that date, he had a letter in the Chillicothe Post Office.  By 1803, he was living in Newton Township, Washington County in the new state of Ohio (Green, 1986; Jackson, 1974).  Adam McMordie died in the Muskingum County, Ohio, in 1806.  He probably left a wife and children since records showed his heirs paid taxes on the property they inherited in the 4th District of Muskingum County, Ohio (Bell, 1981: Jackson, 1987).  At this time, however, no records have been found identifying his descendants.
